Cartier Williams

Cartier Williams hoofer/tap instructor and performer is from Washington, D.C and has been tap dancing since the age of four. Cartier has toured nationally and internationally in "Footnotes" with tap masters Buster Brown, Dianne Walker, Jimmy Slyde, and Savion Glover. Now 20, Mr. Williams studied at The Washington School of Ballet under the direction of Mary Day. Cartier considers it a blessing to have danced and shared the stage with tap pioneers and masters Peg Leg Bates, The Nicholas Brothers, and Gregory Hines. Mr.Williams began teaching professionally at the age of 10. His teaching consists of teaching beginner- master classes. Teaching credits include teaching at River Terrace Elementary School, Nancy Newell DC Dance Collective, Miami-Dade African Cultural Arts Center, Sherri Shortell Center Stage, and Berkley University, just to name a few. As a performer Cartier played "Da Kid" in the International Tour of "Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk". A member of Savion Glover's prestige dance troupe Tii Dii, Mr.Williams' performances include the opening of the Cannes Film Festival , The Jerry Lewis Telethon, and The Nijinsky Awards. He has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and performed for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham-Clinton at the White House , which was filmed for PBS, and performed for President George W. Bush's Congressional picnic at the White House. He has also appeared in Spike Lee's "Bamboozled". Cartier is distinguished as one of The Apollo Theater's youngest "Apollo Legends". Other appearances include a surprise performance for Usher's birthday bash in New York City at The Rainbow Room. Cartier has starred in performances for the FCC, The CIA, The State Department and Department of Justice. He has danced at The AFI Awards: A Tribute to Tom Hanks and The Kennedy Center Honors, and has performed at the renowned Joyce Theatre in New York City. Cartier is currently producing an instructional Tap DVD to be released in early 2010.
